Governor and First Lady Honor Staff Sgt. Louis F. Cardin

SACRAMENTO – On behalf of all Californians, Governor Brown and First Lady Anne Gust Brown honor Staff Sgt. Louis F. Cardin, who bravely gave his life in service to our state and nation. The Governor and First Lady extend their deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.

In memorial, Governor Brown ordered that flags be flown at half-staff over the State Capitol. Staff Sgt. Cardin’s family will receive a letter of condolence from the Governor.

Staff Sgt. Louis F. Cardin, 27, of Temecula, CA, died March 19 in northern Iraq, from wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with rocket fire. The incident is under investigation. Cardin was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Camp Lejeune, NC. Staff Sgt. Cardin was supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.
