Governor Brown Announces Appointments

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments.

Thomas Davis, 56, of Sherman Oaks, has been appointed to the California Film Commission. Davis is third international vice president of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Executive Board, where he has been a member since 2001. He has been business manager at the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Local 80 since 1998, where he has held several positions since 1977, including vice president, chief organizer and executive board member. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Davis is a Democrat.

Michael Nyman, 50, of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the California Film Commission. Nyman has been chairman and chief executive officer of PMK*BNC since 2010. He founded Bragman Nyman Cafarelli in 1990, where he was chairman and chief executive officer from 2002 to 2009. Nyman is a member of the University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communications Board of Councilors, World Presidents Organization Angeleno Chapter Board, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Board of Governors and the Brentwood School Board of Trustees and was a member of the Young Presidents Organization Board from 1999 to 2011. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Nyman is a Republican.

Richard Valdez, 51, of San Diego, has been appointed to the 22nd District Agricultural Association, San Diego County Fair Board of Directors. Valdez has been an adjunct professor at the University of San Diego School of Law since 2008 and a partner and attorney at Sandler, Lasry, Laube, Byer and Valdez LLP since 2000. He was a partner and associate attorney at Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves and Savitch LLP from 1991 to 2000. Valdez earned a Juris Doctor degree at the University of San Diego School of Law. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Valdez is a Democrat.

Cody Crawford, 32, of Blythe, has been appointed to the 54th District Agricultural Association, Colorado River Fair Board of Directors. Crawford has been owner of Crawford Associates since 1998. He is livestock superintendent for the Colorado River Fair, chair of the Palo Verde Unified School District Agricultural Curriculum Advisory Committee and president of the Young Men of the Blythe Ward, Lake Havasu City Arizona Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Crawford is a Republican.

John Hadlock, 76, of Blythe, has been appointed to the 54th District Agricultural Association, Colorado River Fair Board of Directors, where he has served since 1980. Hadlock has owned the Quartzsite Animal Clinic since 1967. He earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Hadlock is Republican.

Steve Montgomery, 57, of Blythe, has been appointed to the 54th District Agricultural Association, Colorado River Fair Board of Directors, where he has served since 1998. Montgomery has owned Circle H Veterinary Hospital since 1989. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the California Veterinary Medical Association and the Blythe Area Chamber of Commerce. Montgomery earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Montgomery is a Republican.

Michael Mullion, 37, of Blythe, has been appointed to the 54th District Agricultural Association, Colorado River Fair Board of Directors, where he has served since 2008. Mullion has been a partner at Red River Farms since 2005. He was district manager at J.G. Boswell Company from 2000 to 2005. Mullion is a member of the Arizona Cotton Growers Association Board and the Cibola Valley Irrigation District Board. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Mullion is a Republican.

Katherine Stroschein, 67, of Blythe, has been appointed to the 54th District Agricultural Association, Colorado River Fair Board of Directors, where she has served since 2008. Stroschein has been an agent and owner at Kathy Stroschein Tax Service since 1983. She is treasurer at California Women for Agriculture and at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Women’s Auxiliary, Post 2987. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Stroschein is registered without party preference.

Arnulfo Fito Vazquez, 54, of Blythe, has been appointed to the 54th District Agricultural Association, Colorado River Fair Board of Directors. Vazquez has been a cake decorator at Albertsons since 2007. He was a manager at Fernando’s Affordable Furniture from 2003 to 2007 and a baker at the Chuckawalla Valley State Prison from 1991 to 2002. Vazquez is a member of the Friends of the Colorado River Fair Foundation Board of Directors, the Palo Verde Valley Hospital Foundation Board and the Palo Verde Valley Hopeful Start Foundation Board. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Vazquez is a Democrat.
