Governor and First Lady Honor Spc. Kenneth C. Alvarez

SACRAMENTO – On behalf of all Californians, Governor Brown and First Lady Anne Gust Brown honor Spc. Kenneth C. Alvarez, who bravely gave his life in service to our state and nation. The Governor and First Lady extend their deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.

In memorial, Governor Brown ordered that flags be flown at half-staff over the State Capitol today. Spc. Alvarez’s family will receive a letter of condolence from the Governor.

Spc. Kenneth C. Alvarez, 23, of Santa Maria, CA, died August 23 in Haft Asiab, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 2nd Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, White Sands Missile Range, NM. Spc. Alvarez was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
