SACRAMENTO – On behalf of all Californians, Governor Brown and First Lady Anne Gust Brown honor Sgt. Thomas R. Macpherson, who bravely gave his life in service to our state and nation. The Governor and First Lady extend their deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.
In memorial, Governor Brown ordered that flags be flown at half-staff over the State Capitol today. Sgt. Macpherson’s family will receive a letter of condolence from the Governor.

Sgt. Thomas R. Macpherson, 26, of Long Beach, CA, died October 12, in Andar District, Afghanistan, from small arms fire while on patrol during combat operations. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, U.S. Army Special Operations Command, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA. He was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
