SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. swore in Juan Felipe Herrera as California Poet Laureate today at the State Capitol. Herrera, 63, has authored twenty-eight books and is the winner of numerous national and international awards. He currently serves as the Tomás Rivera Endowed Chair in the Department of Creative Writing at the University of California, Riverside and is the first Latino to be appointed as California Poet Laureate.
