Governor Brown Issues Statement on the Death of Vallejo Police Department Officer

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today issued the following statement regarding the death of Vallejo Police Department Officer James Capoot:

“Anne and I offer our condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Officer James Capoot who are mourning this tragic loss. Officer Capoot made the ultimate sacrifice today to protect the community he served for almost two decades. His bravery, commitment and selfless service will not be forgotten.”

Officer Capoot, 45, of Vacaville, died Thursday, November 17 after being shot while pursuing a bank robbery suspect in Vallejo.

Officer Capoot worked for the Vallejo Police Department for the past 19 years. Prior to his service with the Vallejo Police Department he was as an officer with the California Highway Patrol and also served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Officer Capoot is survived by his wife, Jennifer, and three daughters.

In honor of Officer Capoot, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
