SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments:
Susan Good, 64, of Fresno, has been reappointed to the Dental Hygiene Committee of California, where she has served since 2013. Good has been owner at Susan Good Consulting since 2010. She was district director in the Office of California Senate Majority Leader Dean Florez from 2002 to 2010 and served in several positions at the 21st District Agricultural Association, Big Fresno Fair from 2001 to 2005, including director, president and vice president. She was district director in the Office of California State Senator Jim Costa from 1996 to 2002 and senior vice president at Bank One from 1988 to 1996. Good held several positions at Coast Savings and Loan from 1978 to 1988, including vice president, branch manager, assistant vice president and director of advertising. She is a member of the San Joaquin Valley College Board of Governors and vice president of the California Hawaii Elks Association-East Central District. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Good is a Democrat.
Timothy S. Martinez, 58, of Santee, has been reappointed to the Dental Hygiene Committee of California, where he has served since 2012. Martinez has been chief dental officer for the Borrego Community Health Foundation since 2017. He was associate dean and clinical professor at the University of New England from 2015 to 2017, associate dean for the Western University of Health Sciences College of Dental Medicine from 2009 to 2015, president of the Outer Cape Dental Center from 2003 to 2015, program evaluator at the Forsyth Institute from 2010 to 2011 and state dental Medicaid director at the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services from 2006 to 2009. Martinez was a dental consultant at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Office of Public Protection’s Board of Registration in Dentistry from 2005 to 2009 and owner at the Mid-Cape Dental Center from 2000 to 2005. He was dental director at the South End Community Health Center from 2000 to 2003, at Harbor Health Services Inc. from 1999 to 2003 and at Boston Healthcare for the Homeless from 1994 to 2003. Martinez is a member of National Network for Oral Health Access, American Dental Association, Hispanic Dental Association and Medicaid’s Children’s Health Insurance Program. Martinez earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Martinez is a Democrat.
Nicolette Moultrie, 46, of Martinez, has been reappointed to the Dental Hygiene Committee of California, where she has served since 2012. Moultrie has been program director of the Dental Hygiene Program and Dental Assisting Program at Diablo Valley College since 2014 and owner and registered dental hygienist in alternative practice at Strategies for Healthy Smiles since 2008. Moultrie earned a Master of Science degree in dental hygiene from the University of California, San Francisco. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Moultrie is a Democrat.
Garry Shay, 62, of Los Angeles, has been reappointed to the Dental Hygiene Committee of California, where he has served since 2013. Shay has been an associate trial attorney at Mullen and Filippi since 2016. He was an associate trial attorney at Stockwell Harris Woolverton and Muehl from 2012 to 2016, a senior trial attorney at Chernow and Lieb Law Offices from 2004 to 2012, a trial attorney at Glauber Berenson and Salazar from 1999 to 2004 and an associate at Richlin and Theofanis from 1997 to 1999 and senior associate at Ingber and Ivey from 1988 to 1997. Shay was managing attorney at the Law Offices of Gary A. Rosenberg P.C. from 1987 to 1988 and an associate at Strantz Sobelsohn Elkin and Bradford from 1986 to 1987 and at the Law Offices of Lloyd Robinson and Associates from 1981 to 1986. He is chair of the California Democratic Party Rules Committee. Shay earned a Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern Law School. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Shay is a Democrat.
Evangeline Ward, 46, of Fresno, has been reappointed to the Dental Hygiene Committee of California, where she has served since 2012. Ward has been a part time adjunct professor at Diablo Valley College since 2015 and a dental hygienist for Dr. Richard Tabor since 2013 and for Dr. Craig Gainza since 2017. She was a dental hygienist for Dr. Dawud Muhaimin from 2010 to 2017, for Dr. Tom Sharp from 2007 to 2012, for Dr. Michael Carpentier and Dr. Grace Mary Hume from 2007 to 2011 and for Dr. John Bristow and Dr. Scott Swoboda from 2009 to 2010. Ward was a probation counselor at the Contra Costa County Probation Department from 2001 to 2009 and at the Fresno County Probation Department from 1999 to 2001. She is a member of the California Dental Hygienists’ Association. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Ward is registered without party preference.
Laphonza Butler, 38, of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission. Butler has been president of SEIU United Long Term Care Workers Union since 2010, where she was a national division director and campaign director from 2006 to 2009. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Butler is a Democrat.
Cherie Watte Angulo, 51, of El Centro, has been reappointed to the 45th District Agricultural Association, California Mid-Winter Fair and Fiesta Board of Directors, where she has served since 2017. Angulo has been an executive director at the California Asparagus Commission since 1999. She was a director for international trade and a manager for the agriculture export program at the California Department of Food and Agriculture from 1997 to 1999, director of national affairs and research at the California Farm Bureau Federation from 1989 to 1997 and a legislative assistant in the Office of Congressman Tony Coelho from 1987 to 1989. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Angulo is a Republican.
Geoffrey Holbrook, 40, of Imperial, has been appointed to the 45th District Agricultural Association, California Mid-Winter Fair and Fiesta Board of Directors. Holbrook has been assistant county counsel in the Imperial County Counsel’s Office since 2015, where he has served in several positions since 2006, including deputy county counsel and senior deputy county counsel. He is a member of the El Centro Rotary Club and a member and parent volunteer at the Southwest Valley 4-H Club and the Imperial Cub Scouts. Holbrook earned a Juris Doctor degree from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Holbrook is a Democrat.
Donna A. Bojarsky, 58, of Los Angeles, has been reappointed to the California Volunteers Commission, where she has served since 2000. Bojarsky has been founder at Future of Cities: LA About Civic Leadership since 2015 and has been director of the Foreign Policy Roundtable since 2006. She was an editorial consultant at Los Angeles Magazine from 2004 to 2016. Bojarsky was an advisor to Norman Pattiz from 1999 to 2014 and to Richard Dreyfuss from 1990 to 2003. Bojarsky was an administrative assistant in the Office of Mayor Tom Bradley from 1984 to 1986 and in the Office of California State Assemblymember Richard Katz from 1982 to 1984. Laurie Cannady, 42, of Marina Del Rey, has been appointed to the California Volunteers Commission. Cannady has been California program director at the Corporation for National and Community Service since 2015, where she has held several positions since 2003, including Hawaii program director and program specialist. She was a program specialist of food and nutrition services at the U.S. Department of Agriculture from 2014 to 2015, where she was summer food service program team lead in 2015. Cannady earned a Master of Public Policy degree in public policy from the University of California, Los Angeles Luskin School of Public Affairs. Wendy Garen, 65, of Glendale, has been reappointed to the California Volunteers Commission, where she has served since 2016. Garen has been president and chief executive officer at the Ralph M. Parsons Foundation since 2008, where she has held several positions since 1986, including executive director, program officer, senior program officer and program director. She was executive director at the Los Angeles Child Care and Development Council from 1984 to 1986, program manager at Crystal Stairs from 1978 to 1984 and program manager at the Children’s Home Society from 1981 to 1984. She is vice chair of the County of Los Angeles Commission on Children and Families and a member of Southern California Grantmakers. Garen earned a Master of Arts degree in urban planning and public policy from the University of California, Los Angeles. Jeffrey F. Hoffman, 58, of Long Beach, has been reappointed to the California Volunteers Commission, where he has served since 2005. Hoffman has been leader of the Corporate Citizenship and Philanthropy Center at the Conference Board since 2017, program director at the Conference Board’s Global Social Investing Council since 2014 and president at Jeff Hoffman and Associates since 2010. He was vice president for worldwide outreach at the Walt Disney Company from 2001 to 2010, where he was director for employee services and corporate human resources from 1985 to 2001, and a member of Disneyland Theme Park Operations from 1978 to 1985. Hoffman is a member of Points of Light and the University of Southern California Center on Philanthropy and Public Policy. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree in finance from Pepperdine University. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Hoffman is a Republican.
Kenneth Martinet, 76, of Glendale, has been reappointed to the California Volunteers Commission, where he has served since 2000. Martinet has been president and chief executive officer at Catholic Big Brothers Big Sisters since 1995. He was president and chief executive officer at Franciscan Communications from 1990 to 1995 and an independent real estate professional from 1987 to 1990. Martinet held several positions at St. Eligius Home Health Care from 1984 to 1987, including founder, president and chief executive officer. He was chief financial officer and senior vice president at Alpha Therapeutic from 1975 to 1984. Martinet was a controller at Litton Industries, Litton Data Systems from 1967 to 1975. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree in business management from California State University, Northridge. David W. Porges, 54, of Pasadena, has been reappointed to the California Volunteers Commission, where he has served since 2008. Porges has been founder at Common Purposes Consulting since 2017. He was national director of corporate social responsibility at Grant Thornton LLP from 2015 to 2017. Porges held several positions at Deloitte LLP from 1998 to 2015, including national director for corporate citizenship, senior manager of the Pacific Southwest Region, the West Region and the National Office, and manager of the Los Angeles Office. He held several positions at Coast Federal Bank, Federal Savings Bank from 1990 to 1998, including vice president of public affairs, government relations and corporate communications, assistant vice president of public affairs, senior public affairs officer and public affairs officer. Porges was a communications specialist at Home Savings of America from 1987 to 1990. He is co-founder and co-director at LA Community Leaders and is an ambassador for IMPACT2030. Robert G. Weist III, 55, of Vacaville, has been reappointed to the California Volunteers Commission, where he has served since 2013. Weist has served in several positions at the City of Davis Fire Department since 1985, including fire captain, acting captain and firefighter. He was a field representative at Carroll Burdick and McDonough from 1999 to 2007. Weist is chair of the City of Davis Fire Department Joint Apprentice Committee and a member of Davis Firefighters Local 3494.
