Governor Brown Issues Statement on Death of Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today issued the following statement regarding the death of Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Robert Rumfelt:

“Anne and I extend our thoughts, prayers and heartfelt condolences to Deputy Rumfelt’s family members, friends and coworkers and we join all Californians in mourning this tragic loss.”

Deputy Rumfelt, 50, died following a single-vehicle collision Tuesday night after responding to a domestic violence call in Lakeport. Officials believe he suffered a medical emergency while driving, just prior to the collision.

Deputy Rumfelt joined the Lake County Sheriff’s Office in 2014 and previously served with the Lakeport Police Department for 10 years.

He is survived by his wife, Kelly; daughters, Brittany and Nicole; sister, Amy; and stepmother Leslie Rumfelt, father Robert Rumfelt and mother Juanita Dixon.

In honor of Deputy Rumfelt, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
