Governor Brown and Legislative Leaders to Hold Media Availability on Passage of Legislation to Combat Air Pollution and Extend California’s Cap-and-Trade Program

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr., Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León, Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon and Assembly Republican Leader Chad Mayes will hold a media availability tonight following the Legislature’s passage of a landmark legislative package – AB 617 by Assemblymembers Cristina Garcia (D-Bell Gardens), Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) and Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) and AB 398 by Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) – to combat air pollution in neighborhoods and extend California’s cap-and-trade program.

“Tonight, California stood tall and once again, boldly confronted the existential threat of our time,” said Governor Brown. “Republicans and Democrats set aside their differences, came together and took courageous action. That’s what good government looks like.”

More than 150 environmental; climate; public health; clean energy and technology; agriculture; food processing; business; labor; local government; community; and utility leaders; researchers and economists; and newspaper editorial boards from across California supported legislation Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr., Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon announced last week to reduce air and carbon pollution and control costs.
