Governor Brown Announces Appointments

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments:

Suzanne Peery, 49, of Milford, has been appointed warden at the California Correctional Center, where she has been acting warden since 2016. Peery served in several positions at High Desert State Prison from 2006 to 2016, including acting warden, chief deputy warden, associate warden, correctional business manager and staff services manager. She served in several positions at the California Correctional Center from 1988 to 2006, including procurement and services officer, business services officer, staff services analyst, personnel services specialist and office assistant. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $145,440. Peery is a Republican.

Norlyn Serrano Asprec, 31, of Sacramento, has been appointed executive director at the Health Professions Education Foundation, where she has served as acting executive director since 2017 and as marketing and outreach director since 2016. Asprec was a legislative aide in the Office of California State Assemblymember Susan Bonilla from 2013 to 2016. She was a peer academic counselor at the Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions’ Center for Academic Success from 2010 to 2012 and a capital fellow in the Office of California State Senator Mark DeSaulnier from 2009 to 2010. Asprec earned a Master of Arts degree in creative arts therapy from Drexel University. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $108,132. Asprec is a Democrat.

Anthony Marino, 37, of Sacramento, has been appointed executive officer at the California Underground Facilities Safe Excavation Board effective July 1, 2017. Marino has been a consultant in the Office of California State Senator Jerry Hill since 2012. He served as a legislative aid in the Office of California State Assemblymember Jerry Hill from 2011 to 2012. Marino was a California Council on Science and Technology science policy fellow from 2010 to 2011 and a science policy fellow at the National Academy of Sciences, Board on Chemical Sciences and Technology in 2010. Marino earned Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Science degrees in chemistry from the University of Chicago. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $121,200. Marino is registered without party preference.
