Governor Brown Issues Statement on Death of Caltrans Worker

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today issued the following statement regarding the death of California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) structural steel painter supervisor Annette Brooks:

“The tragic death of this dedicated public servant is a shock to the entire Caltrans family. Anne and I send our deepest sympathies to Annette’s family, friends and her colleagues during this difficult time.”

Annette Brooks, 61, of Carlotta, was allegedly shot and killed today by another Caltrans employee. The shooter later died of a self-inflicted injury. The incident is under investigation by law enforcement.

Brooks is the 187th Caltrans employee to lose her life on the job.

In honor of Brooks, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
