Governor Brown Issues Statement on Death of Redwood City Police Officer

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today issued the following statement regarding the on-duty death of Redwood City Police Department Officer Gerardo Silva:

“Anne and I are saddened to learn of the sudden, tragic passing of Officer Silva. We join all Californians in honoring Officer Silva’s service to the people of Redwood City and the State of California.”

Officer Silva, 57, was on patrol Friday morning and was later found unconscious at the police station. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died of natural causes.

Officer Silva was an 18-year veteran of the Redwood City Police Department. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

In honor of Officer Silva, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
