SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments:
Muntu Davis, 47, of San Ramon, has been reappointed to the First 5 California Children and Families Commission, where he has served since 2013. Davis has served as department director and county health officer at the Alameda County Public Health Department since 2012, where he has held several positions since 2005, including acting department director, director of the Communicable Disease Control and Prevention Division, deputy health officer for public health emergency preparedness and coordinator of the regional cities readiness initiative. He was a community health program supervisor at the California Department of Health Services in 2005 and a physician at Tracy Zweig Associates from 2003 to 2005. Davis was chief resident at the Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital from 2001 to 2002. He is president of the Health Officers Association of California and was president of the California Conference of Local Health Officers from 2013 to 2015. Davis earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine and a Master of Public Health degree from the Harvard University School of Public Health. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Davis is registered without party preference.
George Halvorson, 69, of Sausalito, has been reappointed to the First 5 California Children and Families Commission, where he has served since 2013. Halvorson has been chair and chief executive officer at the Institute for InterGroup Understanding since 2013. He was chairman at Kaiser Permanente from 2002 to 2014, where he was chief executive officer from 2002 to 2013. Halvorson was president and chief executive officer at HealthPartners from 1984 to 2002 and a senior vice president for marketing and public relations at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota from 1969 to 1984. He is chairman emeritus of the International Federation of Health Funds and a member of the Mayo Clinic Board of Trustees, Advisory Council for the Ready Nation Coalition and the National Committee for Quality Assurance. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Halvorson is registered without party preference.
