Governor Brown Issues Statement on Death of Ventura County Firefighter


SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today issued the following statement regarding the death of Ventura County Fire Department Fire Engineer Ryan Osler:

“Anne and I were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Fire Engineer Ryan Osler, a man who dedicated his life to protecting his fellow Californians. This tragedy reminds us of the dangers firefighters face every day. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends and many colleagues who are mourning this loss.”

Osler, 38, of Santa Clarita, died today in a vehicle accident near Lompoc in Santa Barbara County while responding to the Canyon Fire.

Osler was an 18-year veteran of the Ventura County Fire Department. He is survived by his wife and two children.

In honor of Osler, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
