SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments:
Genevieve Shiroma, 61, of Sacramento, has been reappointed to the California Agricultural Labor Relations Board, where she has served since 1999. Shiroma served as chief of the Air Quality Branch at the California Air Resources Board from 1990 to 1999, where she was an air quality engineer from 1978 to 1990. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $137,956.08. Shiroma is a Democrat.
Jim Wunderman, 59, of Pleasant Hill, has been reappointed vice chair of the San Francisco Bay Area Water Emergency Transportation Authority Board of Directors, where he has served as a member since 2015. Wunderman has been president and CEO at the Bay Area Council since 2004. He was senior vice president of external affairs at the Providian Financial Corporation from 1997 to 2004, chief of staff in the San Francisco Mayor’s Office from 1993 to 1995 and vice president and general manager at Norcal Waste Systems Inc. from 1987 to 1991. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Wunderman is a Democrat.
Anthony Intintoli, 77, of Vallejo, has been reappointed to the San Francisco Bay Area Water Emergency Transportation Authority Board of Directors, where he has served since 2008. Intintoli was mayor of the City of Vallejo from 1999 to 2007 and from 1987 to 1995. He was a GED teacher at the Vallejo Adult School from 1996 to 2002, a teacher at Hogan High School in Vallejo from 1981 to 1995 and served as a member of the Vallejo City Council from 1977 to 1985. He was a teacher at St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School from 1977 to 1981, an attorney in private practice from 1968 to 1977 and an assistant judge advocate at the U.S. Air Force, Judge Advocate General’s Department from 1965 to 1989. He was a member of the San Francisco Bay Area Water Transit Authority Board of Directors from 2000 to 2007. Intintoli earned a Master of Arts degree in educational administration from St. Mary’s College, a Master of Arts degree in teaching of history from the University of California, Davis and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the St. John’s University School of Law. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Intintoli is a Democrat.
Jason Kletter, 44, of Hillsborough, has been reappointed to the State Bar of California Attorney Diversion and Assistance Program Oversight Committee, where he has served since 2013. Kletter has held multiple positions at Bay Area Addiction Research and Treatment since 1993, including president, chief administrative officer and human resources director. He is president of the California Opioid Maintenance Providers Board of Directors and a member of the American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence Board. Kletter earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in organizational psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Kletter is a Democrat.
Thomas Unterman, 71, of Pacific Palisades, has been reappointed to the California State Teachers’ Retirement Board, where he has served since 2013. Unterman has been an adjunct faculty member at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law since 2011 and has held multiple positions at Rustic Canyon Partners since 1999, including founder and founding partner. He held multiple positions at the Times Mirror Company from 1992 to 1999, including executive vice president and chief financial officer. Unterman was a partner at Morrison and Foerster from 1986 to 1992 and at Orrick Herrington and Sutcliffe LLP from 1969 to 1986. Unterman is a member of the ProPublica Board of Directors and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles Board of Trustees. He earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Chicago Law School. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Unterman is a Democrat.
Nora Vargas, 44, of San Diego, has been reappointed to the California State Teachers’ Retirement System Board, where she has served since 2015. Vargas has been vice president of community and government relations at Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest since 2009. She was executive director at the Latino Issues Forum from 2007 to 2009, a consultant at Nora Vargas Consulting from 2005 to 2007, founding director at the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs from 2004 to 2005 and vice president of governmental and political affairs at Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties from 2001 to 2004. She was a legislative relations specialist at San Diego State University from 2000 to 2001, a consultant at Kaufman Campaign Consultants from 1998 to 1999 and a confidential assistant at the U.S. Selective Service System from 1997 to 1998. Vargas is president of the Southwestern Community College District Governing Board and chair of the Hispanas Organized for Political Equality Board of Directors. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Vargas is a Democrat.
Celia McGuinness, 51, of Oakland, has been reappointed to the California Commission on Disability Access, where she has served since 2015. McGuinness has been managing attorney at the Law Office of Paul L. Rein since 2010, where she was an associate from 2008 to 2010. She was a sole practitioner at the Law Office of Celia McGuinness from 1999 to 2008 and served as a deputy public defender at the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office from 1991 to 1997. McGuinness was an adjunct legal writing and research instructor and a moot court instructor at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law from 2008 to 2010 and from 1994 to 1997, and was a visiting clinical professor at the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1998. She is a member of the Consumer Attorneys of California, the Coalition of Disability Access Professionals and the Alameda Contra Costa Trial Lawyers’ Association Board. McGuinness earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Betty Wilson, 79, of Los Angeles, has been reappointed to the California Commission on Disability Access, where she has served since 2010. Wilson has been owner and consultant at Betty R. Wilson and Associates since 2012. She held several positions at the Los Angeles Department on Disability from 1989 to 2012, including director of community services, assistant director and administrative coordinator. Wilson was executive director at the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office for the Disabled from 1981 to 1989 and senior research associate at the University of California, Los Angeles Neuropsychiatric Institute’s Socio-Behavioral Research Group from 1979 to 1981. Laurie Yoo, 42, of South Pasadena, has been reappointed to the California Commission on Disability Access, where she has served since 2014. Yoo has been associate general counsel at Westfield LLC since 2007. She was a partner at Katten, Muchin and Rosenman in 2006, where she was an associate from 1998 to 2006. Yoo was a legal intern at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum Office of Legal Counsel in 1996. She earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law. Gary Christmas, 63, of Riverside, has been reappointed to the California Library Services Board, where he has served since 2014. Christmas has been owner at Gary Christmas Consulting since 2010. He served in several positions for the County of Riverside from 1997 to 2010, including chief deputy county executive officer, deputy county executive officer and county librarian. Christmas served in several positions at the Riverside City and County Public Library System from 1983 to 1997, including regional zone manager of the Western Riverside County Region, library branch manager of the Norco and the Glen Avon regional libraries and reference librarian at the City of Riverside Main Library. Christmas was a librarian at the Pomona Public Library from 1981 to 1983 and served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1973 to 1977. He is a member of the City of Riverside Board of Library Trustees, Riverside East Rotary Club, March Field Air Museum Board of Directors, California Riverside Ballet Board of Directors, Mission Inn Foundation Board, Greater Riverside Chamber of Commerce and the chamber’s Government Affairs Council. Christmas is a member of the Raincross Group, where he was president from 2015 to 2016, and the Unforgettables Foundation, where he was president from 2013 to 2014. Paymaneh Maghsoudi, 58, of Chino Hills, has been reappointed to the California Library Services Board, where she has served since 2003. Maghsoudi has been the director at the City of Whittier Public Library since 2001. She was director of library and community services at the Azusa City Library from 1993 to 2001 and was audio-video librarian at the Downey City Library from 1986 to 1989. Maghsoudi is a member of the American Library Association and the California Library Association. She earned a Master of Library Science degree from the University of Oklahoma. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Maghsoudi is a Democrat.
Peter Mindnich, 62, of Rolling Hills, has been reappointed to the California Library Services Board, where he has served since 2015. Mindnich has been president of the Braille Institute since 2014, where he was executive vice president from 2011 to 2014. He was an executive intern at the U.S. Veterans Initiative from 2010 to 2011 and a clinical social work intern at St. Mary Medical Center’s Comprehensive AIDS Resource and Education Program from 2009 to 2010. Mindnich was managing director at BlackRock Inc. from 2007 to 2009, principal at Quellos Group LLC from 2001 to 2007 and a managing director at Goldman, Sachs and Company from 1985 to 1999. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the Harvard Business School and a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Southern California School of Social Work. Connie Williams, 64, of Petaluma, has been reappointed to the California Library Services Board, where she has served since 2015. Williams has been a teacher librarian at Petaluma High School since 2008. She was a teacher librarian at Kenilworth Junior High School from 1989 to 2008. Williams is co-chair of the American Library Association Government Information for Children Committee and a member of the American Library Association Office for Information Technology Policy Advisory Committee, National Council for the Social Studies, California Council for the Social Studies and the California School Library Association, where she was president from 2005 to 2006. Williams was chair of the American Association of School Librarians Legislation Committee from 2011 to 2012. She earned a Master of Library Science degree from Emporia State University.
