Governor Brown Announces Appointments

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments.

Kristin Peer, 35, of Sacramento, has been appointed assistant general counsel at the California Environmental Protection Agency. Peer has served as a deputy attorney general at the California Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General since 2010. She was an associate at Miller, Starr, Regalia from 2007 to 2010, an extern at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Eastern District of California in 2005 and a credit analyst at Union Bank of California from 2002 to 2004. Peer earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $112,968. Peer is a Democrat.

Rick Braziel, 55, of Gold River, has been appointed to the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. Braziel has been an instructor at Humboldt State University since 2000 and an independent instructor and consultant since 1995. He served as chief of police at the Sacramento Police Department from 2008 to 2012, where he held several positions from 1979 to 2008, including deputy chief, patrol sergeant, patrol watch commander and captain. Braziel is an executive fellow at the Police Foundation and past president of the California Peace Officers’ Association. He earned a Master of Arts degree in security studies from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School and a Master of Arts degree in communication studies from California State University, Sacramento. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Braziel is registered without party preference.

Richard DeLaRosa, 51, of Colton, has been reappointed to the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, where he has served since 2015. DeLaRosa has been mayor of the City of Colton since 2014, where he served as a member of the city council from 1998 to 2010. He was a correctional officer at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation from 1987 to 2014, serving at Patton State Prison from 2011 to 2014, at the California Rehabilitation Center from 1987 to 2011 and at Folsom State Prison in 1987. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. DeLaRosa is a Democrat.

Robert Doyle, 68, of Novato, has been reappointed to the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, where he has served since 2012 and served from 2006 to 2011. Doyle has been the sheriff of Marin County since 1996, where he has served in several positions at the Marin County Sheriff’s Office since 1969, including deputy sheriff, captain and undersheriff. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1969. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Doyle is a Democrat.

Batine Ramirez, 51, of Penryn, has been appointed to the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. Ramirez has been a detective at the Placer County Sheriff’s Department since 2014, where she has served in several positions since 1999, including death investigator and deputy. She is president of the Placer County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association and vice president of the Placer 10-35 Foundation. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Ramirez is a Republican.
