Governor Brown Announces Appointments

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments.

Deborah Hoffman, 49, of Sacramento, has been appointed deputy press secretary in the Office of the Governor. Hoffman has served as assistant secretary of public and employee communication at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation since 2012. She served as assistant secretary of communications at the California Environmental Protection Agency from 2011 to 2012 and as communications director in the Office of California State Senator Fran Pavley from 2009 to 2011. Hoffman was a news reporter at KXTV from 1995 to 2009 and at KRNV-TV from 1993 to 1995. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $141,360. Hoffman is registered without party preference.

Gareth Lacy, 33, of Sacramento, has been appointed deputy press secretary in the Office of the Governor. Lacy has served as deputy secretary of communications and strategic planning at the California State Transportation Agency since 2013. He served as deputy secretary of communications and strategic planning at the California Business, Transportation and Housing Agency from 2012 to 2013 and senior research associate in the Office of the Governor from 2011 to 2012. Lacy was editor-in-chief at the Washington Journal of Law, Technology and Arts from 2010 to 2011 and served as press secretary at the California Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General from 2007 to 2008. He was deputy campaign manager of Jerry Brown for Attorney General from 2005 to 2006 and a Peace Corps volunteer in Lesotho from 2003 to 2005. Lacy earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Washington School of Law. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $126,036. Lacy is a Democrat.

Melissa Figueroa, 34, of West Sacramento, has been appointed deputy secretary of communications and strategic planning at the California State Transportation Agency. Figueroa has served as deputy secretary of communications at the California Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency since 2013. She was deputy secretary of communications at the California State and Consumer Services Agency from 2011 to 2013 and press secretary in the Office of California State Senator Joe Simitian from 2009 to 2011. Figueroa was a consumer producer at KCRA-TV from 2006 to 2009 and a newscast producer at KSBY-TV from 2002 to 2006. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $124,392. Figueroa is a Democrat.

Darrin Monteiro, 28, of Hanford, has been appointed to the 24a District Agricultural Association, Kings Fair Board of Directors. Monteiro has been director of member relations at California Dairies Inc. since 2011. He was a county operations trainee at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency from 2008 to 2011. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Monteiro is a Republican.

Brad Scott, 48, of San Jacinto, has been appointed to the 46th District Agricultural Association, Southern California Fair Board of Directors, where he has served since 2005. Scott has been a partner at Scott Brothers Dairy Farms Inc. since 1981. He is a member of the Riverside County Farm Bureau, California Beef Council, Milk Producers Council, Dairy Herd Improvement Association, Riverside County Flood Control and the Mountain Rescue Association’s Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Scott is a Republican.

Rollin Magnuson, 75, of Riverside, has been reappointed to the 46th District Agricultural Association, Southern California Fair Board of Directors, where he has served since 2012. Magnuson was president of Magnuson Tire and Wheel Services Inc. from 1954 to 1998. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Riverside, Riverside Elks Lodge, Riverside Rancheros and the De Anza Trail Caballeros. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Magnuson is a Democrat.
