SACRAMENTO – On behalf of all Californians, Governor Brown and First Lady Anne Gust Brown honor Lance Cpl. Sean P. Neal, who bravely gave his life in service to our state and nation. The Governor and First Lady extend their deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.
In memorial, Governor Brown ordered that flags be flown at half-staff over the State Capitol. Lance Cpl. Neal’s family will receive a letter of condolence from the Governor.

Lance Cpl. Sean P. Neal, 19, of Riverside, CA, died October 23 in Baghdad, Iraq, in a non-combat related incident that is under investigation. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force – Crisis Response – Central Command, whose headquarters element deploys from Camp Pendleton, CA. Lance Cpl. Neal was supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.
