SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments.
Stewart Knox, 46, of Vina, has been appointed executive director of the Employment Training Panel. Knox has been director at the Nevada County Health and Human Services Agency since 2014. He was executive director at the Northern Rural Training and Employment Consortium from 2008 to 2013, at the North Central Counties Consortium from 2006 to 2008, at the Verdugo Workforce Investment Board from 2004 to 2005 and for Yuba Community College and Colusa County Workforce Development from 1997 to 2004. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $136,500. Knox is a Republican.
Sue Burr, 61, of Rancho Murieta, has been appointed to the Committee on Awards for Innovation in Higher Education. Burr served as executive director of the State Board of Education from 2011 to 2012 and of the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association from 2006 to 2011, where she was governmental relations director from 2003 to 2006. She was assistant superintendent for business services for the Elk Grove Unified School District from 2000 to 2003 and served as undersecretary of education under Governor Gray Davis from 1999 to 2000, serving as interim secretary in 2000. Burr was co-director of the California State University Institute for Education Reform from 1995 to 1999 and a principal consultant for the California State Senate Education Committee from 1991 to 1994 and for the California State Senate Appropriations Committee from 1986 to 1991. Burr is a member of the State Board of Education. She earned a Master of Business Administration degree from California State University, Sacramento. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Burr is a Democrat.
Charles Horne-Nutte, 39, of Paradise, has been appointed to Area Board II of the California State Council on Developmental Disabilities. Horne-Nutt has been a care provider for the Butte County In-Home Supportive Services Public Authority since 1999. He is a member of the Statewide Self Advocacy Network. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Horne-Nutt is a Democrat.
Sandra Aldana, 43, of Newbury Park, has been appointed to Area Board IX of the State Council on Developmental Disabilities. Aldana has been a technical assistant at JFA Avionics since 2010. She was a graduate research assistant at the University of California, Santa Barbara Department of Education from 2005 to 2011, a graduate intern at the University of California Cooperative Extension Agricultural Water Quality Research and Education Program from 2006 to 2009 and a consultant and facilitator at the ALS Association’s Kern County Patient and Caregiver Support Group from 2005 to 2006. Aldana was a Spanish language instructor at the University of Kansas Spanish and Portuguese Department and a development coordinator at the American Stroke Foundation in 2004. She was a graduate teaching and research assistant at the University of Kansas Department of Applied Behavioral Science from 2003 to 2004, a service coordinator at the North Los Angeles County Regional Center from 2001 to 2003 and a qualified mental retardation professional at the United Cerebral Palsy Chatsworth Chapter from 2000 to 2001. Aldana was a pregnancy prevention program coordinator at the Vista Community Clinic from 1999 to 2000, a senior health educator for pregnancy prevention at the Northridge Hospital Medical Center from 1998 to 1999 and a staff intern at the World Health Organization in 1997. She was a graduate teaching assistant at California State University, Northridge from 1995 to 1996, an intern at the Ventura County Department of Public Health from 1996 to 1997 and an AIDS educator for AIDS Care Inc. from 1990 to 1998. Aldana is a member of the American Association of University Women and the American Public Health Association. She earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree and Master of Arts degree in education from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a Master of Public Health degree in health education from California State University, Northridge. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Aldana is a Democrat.
Randy Kajioka, 55, of Sacramento, has been appointed to the California Alarm Company Operator Disciplinary Review Committee. Kajioka has been statewide chief of pharmacy services at California Correctional Health Care Services since 2013. He held several positions at the Kaiser Permanente Sacramento Medical Center from 1984 to 2013, including pharmacy project manager, chief pharmacist, assistant chief pharmacist and outpatient pharmacy manager. Kajioka was a pharmacist at Walgreens Pharmacy from 1996 to 2010, a nuclear pharmacist at Medi-Physics from 1992 to 1993 and a staff pharmacist at Gemco Pharmacy from 1984 to 1986. He has been a reserve deputy for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department since 1996 and was a reserve deputy for the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office from 1983 to 1997. Kajioka is president of the Sacramento Asian Peace Officers Association, a member of the Asian Pacific Community Counseling Transcultural Wellness Center and was president of the Asian Pacific State Employees Association Foundation in 2011. He earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of the Pacific School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Kajioka is a Democrat.
Alex Lawrence, 45, of Inglewood, has been appointed to the State Bar of California Examining Committee. Lawrence has been director of MBA admissions and financial aid at the University of California, Los Angeles Anderson School of Management since 2012, where he was executive director of the Riordan Fellows Program from 2004 to 2012. Lawrence was a senior consultant at Ernst and Young from 1999 to 2004. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, Anderson School of Management and a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Lawrence is a Democrat.
Michael Marion Jr., 35, of Sacramento, has been appointed to the California Student Aid Commission. Marion has been associate vice provost at Drexel University since 2014. He served as dean of student services and counseling at Cosumnes River College from 2010 to 2014, where he was vice president of student services and enrollment management from 2012 to 2013. Marion served as associate dean of students at Radford University from 2008 to 2010, where he was interim director for the Office of Multicultural International Student Services at the Center for Diversity and Inclusion from 2008 to 2009. He served as an academic advisor for the El Camino College Compton Center in 2008 and a residential coordinator at the University of Southern California from 2006 to 2008. Marion served in several positions at San Diego State University from 2003 to 2006, including special activities coordinator, career counselor and graduate counselor and therapist at the Center for Community Counseling. Marion served as an academic advisor at MiraCosta College from 2004 to 2005. He is a member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators Advisory Board. Marion earned a Master of Education degree from San Diego State University and a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Southern California, School of Education. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Marion is a Democrat.
Steven Maviglio, 56, of Sacramento, has been appointed to the Capitol Area Committee. Maviglio has been president of Forza Communications since 2008. He served as deputy chief of staff in the office of California State Assembly Speaker Karen Bass from 2007 to 2008 and deputy chief of staff in the office of California State Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez from 2005 to 2007. Maviglio was a member of the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board from 2003 to 2004 and served as press secretary in the office of Governor Gray Davis from 2000 to 2003. He was office director and administrative assistant in the office of Congressman Rush Holt from 1999 to 2000, deputy director of legislative and public affairs at the United States Department of Justice from 1998 to 1999, executive director for the U.S. House Democratic Caucus in the office of Congressman Vic Fazio from 1997 to 1998, special assistant to the director at the U.S. Trade and Development Agency from 1995 to 1997 and was a representative in the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 1990 to 1995. Maviglio is vice president of the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op Board of Directors. He earned a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of New Hampshire.
