SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today signed legislation to strengthen privacy and consumer protections.
The Governor signed the following bills:
• AB 928 by Assemblymember Kristin M. Olsen (R-Modesto): Requires each state agency and department to conspicuously post its privacy policy on its website.
• AB 1256 by Assemblymember Richard H. Bloom (D-Santa Monica): Expands existing law regarding invasion of privacy.
• AB 1356 by Assemblymember Richard H. Bloom (D-Santa Monica): Expands legal recourse for stalking victims.
• AB 1700 by Assemblymember Jose Medina (D-Riverside): Expands consumer protections for reverse mortgage applicants.
• AB 1710 by Assemblymember Roger Dickinson (D-Sacramento): Requires companies to offer identity theft prevention and mitigation services to consumers following data security breaches.
• AB 1732 by Assemblymember Mark Stone (D-Scotts Valley): Prohibits vehicle manufacturers, distributors and dealers from inaccurately advertising a vehicle’s prior use or ownership history.
• AB 2122 by Assemblymember Raul J. Bocanegra (D-Los Angeles): Updates existing law regarding the sale of audio recordings and audiovisual works without clearly disclosing the actual true name and address of the manufacturer.
• AB 2306 by Assemblymember Ed Chau (D-Arcadia): Expands existing law regarding invasion of privacy.
• AB 2643 by Assemblymember Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont): Creates private legal recourse against a person who intentionally distributes a sexually explicit image or video of another without his or her consent.
• SB 611 by Senator Jerry Hill (D-San Mateo): Requires limousines to be equipped with fire extinguishers.
• SB 828 by Senator Ted W. Lieu (D-Torrance): Prohibits state agencies from assisting the federal government in the collection of personal, electronically stored data, except under certain circumstances.
• SB 1019 by Senator Mark Leno (D-San Francisco): Requires a manufacturer of upholstered furniture to indicate whether or not the product contains added flame retardant chemicals.
• SB 1255 by Senator Anthony J. Cannella (R-Ceres): Expands existing law regarding the distribution of a sexually explicit image or video of another with the intent to cause serious emotional distress.
