SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments.
Jennifer Castleberry, 45, of Rocklin has been appointed marketing and public relations manager of the California Exposition and State Fair. Castleberry was general manager at Modamedia Communications from 2012 to 2014 and senior director of marketing, events and entertainment for the Sacramento River Cats Baseball Club from 2010 to 2012. She was a managing supervisor for Runyon Saltzman and Einhorn from 2000 to 2010, communications director for the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services from 1998 to 1999, new account acquisition manager at Fleet Bank from 1995 to 1998 and communication director at the Hawaii State Department of Health from 1990 to 1995. She is a member of the American Advertising Federation. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $95,640. Castleberry is a Democrat.
Raul DeLaRosa Jr., 30, of Sacramento, has been appointed special assistant for climate change at the California Natural Resources Agency. DeLaRosa has served as a researcher at the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research since 2011. He was an executive fellow in the California Governor’s Office from 2010 to 2011 and a field representative for California State Assemblymember Anna Caballero from 2008 to 2010. DeLaRosa was an intern at the Office of Assemblymember Joe Coto from 2006 to 2007. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $79,260. DeLaRosa is a Democrat.
Valerie Lara Minton, 30, of Petaluma, has been appointed to the North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board. Minton has been program director at the Sonoma Resource Conservation District since 2012, where she has held multiple positions since 2008, including conservation project manager and project coordinator. She was an environmental science intern at the North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board from 2006 to 2008. Minton is a fellow of the Leadership Institute for Ecology and the Economy and a member of Leadership Santa Rosa. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Minton is a Democrat.
Lisa Barkett, 55, of La Jolla, has been reappointed to the 22nd District Agricultural Association, San Diego County Fair Board of Directors, where she has served since 2011. Barkett was vice president of Merjan Financial Corporation from 1989 to 2013. She is a member of the University of Southern California Board of Trustees and the Rady Children’s Hospital Board of Trustees. She earned a Juris Doctor degree from the Pepperdine University School of Law. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Barkett is a Democrat.
Kathlyn Mead, 55, of Escondido, has been appointed to the 22nd District Agricultural Association, San Diego County Fair Board of Directors. Mead was executive vice president and chief operations officer at the California Endowment from 2007 to 2014. She was president and chief executive officer at the Council of Community Clinics from 2006 to 2007, vice president at Blue Shield of California from 2005 to 2006, president and chief executive officer at Sharp Health Plan from 1996 to 2005 and vice president at Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego from 1994 to 1996. Mead earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Southern California. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Mead is a Democrat.
Frederick Schenk, 60, of San Diego, has been reappointed to the 22nd District Agricultural Association, San Diego County Fair Board of Directors, where he has been chair since 2013 and has served since 2011. Schenk has been a partner at Casey Gerry Schenk Francavilla Blatt and Penfield since 1983. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Schenk is a Democrat.
Nicholas Peters, 55, of Paicines, has been appointed to the 33rd District Agricultural Association, San Benito County Fair Board of Directors. Peters has been an assistant mechanic at Chappell Pump and Supply since 2014. He was a maintenance mechanic at Royal Circuit Solutions from 2013 to 2014, a clamp operator at International Paper from 2011 to 2013 and a trails maintenance worker at the Pinnacles National Park from 2008 to 2011. Peters was an electrician at Safety Storage from 2007 to 2008 and a maintenance mechanic at Blossom Hill Winery from 1995 to 2007. He is a member of the San Benito County 4-H Program, the Panoche School District Board of Trustees and the San Benito County Fair Livestock Committee. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Peters is registered without party preference.
Kristina Chavez Wyatt, 39, of Hollister, has been appointed to the 33rd District Agricultural Association, San Benito County Fair Board of Directors. Wyatt has been president and owner at Farmhouse Communications since 2012. She was a senior account executive at Meridian Pacific from 2010 to 2012 and at Armanasco Public Relations from 2005 to 2010 and was a marketing director at the Zoological Society of San Luis Obispo County from 2002 to 2005. Wyatt is a member of the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce, San Benito County Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau, Salinas Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce. She is a member of the California Women for Agriculture Salinas Valley Chapter, San Benito County Farm Bureau, Monterey County Farm Bureau and the San Benito County Business Council. Fermin Rubio, 54, of Dixon, has been appointed to the 36th District Agricultural Association, Dixon May Fair Board of Directors. Rubio has been a probation counselor at the Contra Costa County Probation Department since 2013 and a parole agent at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Vallejo since 2011. He was a parole agent at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Concord from 2006 to 2010, a criminal investigator at the California Department of Motor Vehicles, Vallejo from 2001 to 2006 and a Sergeant at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation California Medical Facility from 1987 to 2001.
