SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today issued the following statement regarding the death of Los Angeles Police Department Officer Roberto Sanchez:
“Anne and I extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Officer Sanchez as they mourn this tragic loss,” said Governor Brown. “Californians will not forget Officer Sanchez’s service to his community and the sacrifice of the family he’s left behind.”
Officer Sanchez, 32, of Santa Ana, died in a collision Saturday when his patrol car was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Harbor City. His partner, who was seriously injured in the collision, is recovering in the hospital. Officer Sanchez is the third Los Angeles Police Department officer to be killed in a collision since March.
Officer Sanchez served at the Los Angeles Police Department for nearly six years. He is survived by his wife and his parents.
In honor of Officer Sanchez, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
