SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments.
Georgette Imura, 70, of Sacramento, has been appointed to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Imura was owner of Liberty Consulting from 1995 to 2006 and held multiple positions in the Office of California State Senate President pro Tempore David Roberti from 1987 to 1994, including senate floor coordinator, legislative director and director of the Office of Asian Pacific Islander Affairs. She was the principal consultant for the California State Senate Elections Committee from 1985 to 1987 and a staff director for the California State Senate Democratic Caucus from 1981 to 1985. Imura was chief of staff for California State Senator Diane Watson from 1978 to 1981, a legislative assistant for Assemblymember Julian Dixon from 1972 to 1978, a legislative secretary for Assemblymember Yvonne Brathwaite from 1968 to 1972 and receptionist for Assemblymember Leroy Greene from 1967 to 1968. Imura is first vice chair of the Council of Asian Pacific Islanders Together for Advocacy and Leadership and is a member of the California Cultural and Historical Endowment Board, the Japanese American Citizens League and the Asian Pacific Youth Leadership Project Board of Directors, where she was president from 2006 to 2011. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Imura is a Democrat.
Kathy McCorry, 53, of Mariposa, has been appointed to the 35a District Agricultural Association, Mariposa County Fair and Homecoming Board of Directors. McCorry has been president and chief executive officer at the Mariposa County Chamber of Commerce since 2011. She held multiple positions at the Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce from 2001 to 2011, including operations manager and executive director. McCorry was chief executive officer of Kathy’s Clothes from 1986 to 1996. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. McCorry is a Republican.
Charles Phillips, 49, of Mariposa, has been appointed to the 35a District Agricultural Association, Mariposa County Fair and Homecoming Board of Directors. Phillips has been an independent photographer since 1994. He was a maintenance worker for the San Benito High School District from 1999 to 2002 and park aide for the City of Salinas Parks and Community Services Department and the Monterey County Parks Department from 1990 to 1994. Phillips was an assistant ice maker and weight master at Maggio Farms from 1984 to 1988. He was a conservation aide for the National Park Service Youth Conservation Corps in 1982. Phillips is a member of the Mariposa Butterfly Festival Board, the Mariposa County Business Association, the Mariposa Photography Club, National Geographic Society’s Sierra Nevada Wide Geocouncil and the Mariposa County Arts Council. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Phillips is a Republican.
Ray Hocker, 59, of Ridgecrest, has been appointed to the 53rd District Agricultural Association, Desert Empire Fair Board of Directors. Hocker has been a scientific and technical photographer for the U.S. Navy NavAir Division since 2012 and owner of Sierra Photography Studios since 1978. He was lead photographer and video producer at Management and Engineering Technologies International Inc. from 2009 to 2012. Hocker was an adjunct instructor in media arts at Cerro Coso Community College from 2007 to 2012. He earned his Master of Arts degree in cinema from National University. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Hocker is registered without party preference.
