SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today issued the following statement regarding the death of Orange County Fire Authority Engineer Greg Hennessey:
“Anne and I were saddened to learn of the death of Engineer Greg Hennessey, a firefighter who devoted his life to protecting his fellow Californians. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues.”
Engineer Hennessey, 49, of Trabuco Canyon, passed away from an apparent cardiac arrest while on duty at his assigned fire station yesterday.
Engineer Hennessey was a dedicated firefighter who began his career with the Orange County Fire Authority in 1990, serving as a firefighter for 11 years before his promotion to the rank of Engineer in 2001. Engineer Hennessey was committed to mentoring youth interested in becoming firefighters and served as an Explorer Post Advisor for the communities of Rancho Santa Margarita and Mission Viejo. Hennessey was an Eagle Scout and was extremely proud of his sons who achieved this high award as well.
Engineer Hennessey is survived by his mother Virginia, wife Deanna, and two sons Ryan, 22, and Brandon, 19.
In honor of Engineer Hennessey, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
