SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments.
Mark Silverman, 63, of Santa Monica, has been appointed to the California Board of Accountancy. Silverman has been an advisor at Twistory Entertainment Studios and entrepreneur in residence at the Georgetown University McDonough School of Business since 2013. He was an advisor at WynnStarr Foods Inc. in 2013 and held multiple positions at ScrollMotion Inc. from 2009 to 2013, including executive vice president and chief operating officer. Silverman was a principal at YQ Holdings Group from 2002 to 2009, executive vice president at US Interactive from 1998 to 2001 and chief operating officer at Digital Evolution Inc. from 1996 to 1998. He was vice president at Coast Converters Inc. from 1981 to 1996 and served as an attorney advisor at the Federal Trade Commission from 1976 to 1980. Silverman earned a Juris Doctor degree from the Georgetown University Law Center. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Silverman is registered decline-to-state.
Kathleen King, 57, of Saratoga, has been reappointed to the Dental Board of California, where she has served since 2013. King has been chief executive officer of the Healthier Kids Foundation of Santa Clara County since 2008. She served in multiple positions at the City of Saratoga from 2002 to 2010, including mayor and city council member. King held multiple positions at Applied Materials Inc. from 1981 to 2000, including senior director. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. King is a Democrat.
Patricia Ann Rucker, 53, of Elk Grove, has been reappointed to the California State Board of Education, where she has served since 2011. Rucker has been a legislative advocate for the California Teachers Association since 2008. She was a consultant to the California Teachers Association on instruction and professional development from 1997 to 2008 and was a teacher in the Del Paso Heights School District from 1983 to 1997. Rucker earned a Master of Education degree in curriculum and instruction from California State University, Sacramento. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Rucker is a Democrat.
Michael Kirst, 74, of Stanford, has been reappointed to the California State Board of Education, where he has served since 2011. Kirst is professor emeritus at Stanford University, where he has been a member of the faculty since 1969. He was director of program planning for the U.S. Office of Education and staff director for the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Manpower, Employment, and Poverty from 1967 to 1969. Kirst served on the California State Board of Education from 1975 to 1982. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in political economy from Harvard University. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Kirst is a Democrat.
Carl Anthony Cohn, 68, of Palm Springs, has been reappointed to the California State Board of Education, where he has served since 2011. Cohn has been a professor and co-director of the Urban Leadership Program at Claremont Graduate University since 2009. He was a distinguished leader in residence at San Diego State University from 2007 to 2008 and superintendent of schools at the San Diego Unified School District from 2005 to 2007. Cohn was a clinical professor at the University of Southern California Rossier School of Education from 2002 to 2005 and superintendent of schools at the Long Beach Unified School District from 1992 to 2002. He is a member of the Association of California School Administrators. Cohn earned a Doctor of Education degree in administration and policy studies from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Master of Arts degree in counseling from Chapman University. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Cohn is a Democrat.
Susan Good, 60, of Fresno, has been reappointed to the Dental Hygiene Committee of California, where she has served since 2013. Good has been owner at Susan Good Consulting since 2010. She was district director for California State Senate Majority Leader Dean Florez from 2002 to 2010 and served in multiple positions at the 21st District Agricultural Association, Big Fresno Fair from 2001 to 2005, including director, president and vice president. She was district director for California State Senator Jim Costa from 1996 to 2002 and senior vice president at Bank One from 1988 to 1996. Good served in multiple positions at Coast Savings and Loan from 1978 to 1988, including vice president, branch manager, assistant vice president and director of advertising. Nicolette Moultrie, 42, of Martinez, has been reappointed to the Dental Hygiene Committee of California, where she has served since 2012. Moultrie has been adjunct faculty at Diablo Valley and Chabot Colleges since 2013 and owner and registered dental hygienist in alternative practice at Strategies for Healthy Smiles since 2008. She was program manager and clinical supervisor at the Contra Costa County Health Services Children’s Oral Health Program from 2007 to 2013, project liaison for the Contra Costa County Regional Medical Center’s fluoride varnish project from 2010 to 2012 and a registered dental hygienist for Jess J. Santucci, DDS from 2000 to 2009. Moultrie earned a Master of Science degree in dental hygiene from the University of California, San Francisco. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Moultrie is a Democrat.
Garry Shay, 58, of Reseda, has been reappointed to the Dental Hygiene Committee of California, where he has served since 2013. Shay has been an associate trial attorney at Stockwell Harris Woolverton and Muehl since 2012. He was senior trial attorney at Chernow and Lieb Law Offices from 2004 to 2012, trial attorney at Glauber Berenson and Salazar from 1999 to 2004 and associate at Richlin and Theofanis from 1997 to 1999. Shay was senior associate at Ingber and Ivey from 1988 to 1997 and managing attorney at the Law Offices of Gary A. Rosenberg P.C. from 1987 to 1988. He was associate at Strantz Sobelsohn Elkin and Bradford from 1986 to 1987 and at the Law Offices of Lloyd Robinson and Associates from 1981 to 1986. Shay earned a Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern Law School. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Shay is a Democrat.
Evangeline Ward, 42, of Benicia, has been reappointed to the Dental Hygiene Committee of California, where she has served since 2012.
