Governor Brown Issues Statement on Death of Tulare County Sheriff’s Deputy

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today issued the following statement regarding the death of Tulare County Sheriff’s Correctional Deputy Jeremy Meyst:

“Deputy Meyst made the ultimate sacrifice to protect Tulare County and its residents. Anne and I extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues during this painful time.”

Meyst, 31, of Visalia, was killed in a collision this morning on Road 204 south of Highway 198 near the Friant-Kern Canal Bridge.

Deputy Meyst was hired by the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department in October of 2004 as a Detention Services Officer. In April of 2006, he was promoted to Correctional Deputy. His last assignment was at the Sheriff’s Main Jail Facility.

He is survived by his wife and two children.

In honor of Deputy Meyst, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
