SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments
Asa Bradman, 52, of Berkeley, has been reappointed to the California Scientific Guidance Panel, where he has served since 2007. Bradman has been co-founder and director of the Center for Environmental Research and Children’s Health at the University of California, Berkeley since 1998. He was a research scientist at the California Department of Public Health, Division of Environmental and Occupational Disease Control from 1991 to 1997, an independent consulting analyst from 1989 to 1991 and a field scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory from 1984 to 1987. Bradman is a member of the International Society of Exposure Science. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in public health and Master of Science degree in energy and resources from the University of California, Berkeley. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Bradman is registered decline-to-state.
Thomas McKone, 62, of Alameda, has been reappointed to the California Scientific Guidance Panel, where he has served since 2007. McKone has been adjunct professor of environmental health sciences at the University of California, Berkeley School of Public Health and has held multiple positions at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory Division of Environmental Energy Technologies since 1996, including senior scientist and deputy of research programs. He was a research engineer at the University of California, Davis, Department of Environmental Toxicology from 1992 to 1995 and a staff scientist at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Division of Health and Ecological Assessment from 1983 to 1995. McKone was a visiting scientist at the Harvard School of Public Health from 1987 to 1988 and a post-doctoral fellow at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards from 1981 to 1983. He is a member of the International Society of Exposure Science, the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry and the Society for Risk Analysis. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree and Master of Science degree in engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. McKone is a Democrat.
Penelope Quintana, 54, of San Diego, has been reappointed to the California Scientific Guidance Panel, where she has served since 2013. Quintana has held multiple positions at the San Diego State University Graduate School of Public Health since 1995, including associate professor, graduate advisor for the global Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Public Health degree programs and assistant professor. She was an assistant professor at the University of British Columbia from 1992 to 1994 and staff scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory Indoor Environment Program from 1991 to 1992. Quintana was a research associate at the University of California, Berkeley from 1985 to 1990 and an industrial hygiene trainee at the Naval Ocean Systems Center, San Diego in 1984. She is a member of the International Society of Exposure Science, the American Public Health Association, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Border 2020 Environmental Health and Air Quality Task Forces in California/Baja California. Quintana earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in environmental health sciences from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master of Public Health degree from San Diego State University. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Quintana is a Democrat.
Henry Hansel, 65, of Santa Rosa, has been appointed to the California Consumer Motor Vehicle Recovery Corporation Board of Directors. Hansel has been owner and president of the Hansel Auto Group since 1973. Hansel is chairman of the Northern California Ford Dealers Advertising Association Board of Directors, president of the Northern California Toyota Advertising Association Board of Directors and member of the Northern California Honda Dealers Advertising Association Board of Directors. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Hansel is a Democrat.
Rahim Hassanally, 34, of Fairfield, has been appointed to the California Consumer Motor Vehicle Recovery Corporation Board of Directors. Hassanally has been owner at Momentum Auto Group since 2010 and at Infiniti of Fairfield since 2006. He is a member of the California New Motor Vehicle Board, the National Automotive Dealers Association Board of Directors and the National Association of Minority Automobile Dealers Board of Directors and secretary for the Toyota Lexus Minority Dealers Association Board of Directors. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Hassanally is registered decline-to-state.
Mark Pazin, 57, of Merced, has been appointed chief of the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services Law Enforcement Branch. Pazin has been sheriff-coroner for Merced County since 2002, where he has served in multiple positions at the Sheriff’s Department since 1981, including area commander and assistant sheriff. Pazin has served on the Alfred E. Alquist Seismic Safety Commission since 2011 and is a past president on the California State Sheriffs’ Association President’s Counsel. He earned a Master of Science degree in national security from the American Military University. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $120,000. Pazin is a Republican.
Rosielyn Pulmano Thompson, 40, of Elk Grove, has been appointed deputy secretary of business and consumer policy at the California Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency. Pulmano Thompson has been principal consultant for the California State Assembly Committee on Health since 2012. She was senior consultant for the California State Senate Committee on Business, Professions and Economic Development from 2008 to 2012 and senior consultant for the California State Assembly Committee on Health from 2004 to 2008. Pulmano Thompson was a senior consultant for the California State Assembly Committee on Arts and Entertainment from 2002 to 2004 and an assistant at the California State Assembly Speaker’s Office Democratic Floor Alert from 2001 to 2002. Pulmano Thompson earned a Juris Doctor degree from University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $129,996. Pulmano Thompson is a Democrat.
