Governor Brown Issues Statement on Death of Laguna Beach Police Officer

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today issued the following statement regarding the death of Laguna Beach Police Department Officer Jon Coutchie.

“Anne and I extend our deepest condolences to Officer Coutchie’s loved ones. As we mourn the loss of Officer Coutchie, we commit to honoring his service and remembering his sacrifice,” said Governor Brown.

Officer Coutchie, 41, of Dana Point, died Saturday while responding to a call when his departmental motorcycle collided with a pickup truck that had turned in front of him at an intersection on State Route 1, Pacific Coast Highway.

Officer Coutchie joined the Laguna Beach Police Department in March 2009. He was a U.S. Army Ranger sergeant who served two tours of duty in Iraq and two tours of duty in Afghanistan. Officer Coutchie is survived by his mother, father, brother, stepsister and girlfriend.

In honor of Officer Coutchie, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
