SACRAMENTO – On behalf of all Californians, Governor Brown and First Lady Anne Gust Brown honor Spc. Javier Sanchez Jr., who bravely gave his life in service to our state and nation. The Governor and First Lady extend their deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.
In memorial, Governor Brown ordered that flags be flown at half-staff over the State Capitol today. Spc. Sanchez’s family will receive a letter of condolence from the Governor.

Spc. Javier Sanchez Jr., 28, of Greenfield, CA, died June 23, in Sar Rowzah, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, NY. Spc. Sanchez was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
