LOS ANGELES – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. tomorrow will hold a news conference at an elementary school in East Los Angeles with supporters of his to plan to direct additional resources to the state’s neediest students and later participate in a news conference at the site of a home solar installation in Long Beach.
Los Angeles School Funding News Conference
Governor Brown will join local education leaders, elected officials and other supporters to call for action on his plan to improve how schools are funded in California. The Governor’s plan, also known as the “Local Control Funding Formula,” directs additional funding to the neediest students and restores local control over how money is spent in schools. According to a recent PPIC poll, 78% of adults support the Governor’s proposal to give local districts more flexibility and 71% of adults support the Governor’s plan to direct more funding to lower-income students and English language learners.

Long Beach Solar Installation News Conference
Governor Brown will join the CEO and co-founder of GRID Alternatives, Los Angeles Trade Technical College job trainees and others at a news conference in front of a home where solar panels will be installed through the Single-family Affordable Solar Homes Program (SASH). The program is ratepayer-funded through the California Public Utilities Commission and provides up-front rebates to help low-income homeowners access solar power. This installation will allow the homeowners to save up to 90% on their electricity bills, with expected lifetime savings of $40,000.
