Governor Brown Announces Appointments

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments.

Max Duley, 45, of Fairfield, has been appointed to Area Board IV of the State Council on Developmental Disabilities and as representative of Area Board IV to the State Council on Developmental Disabilities. Duley has served on Area Board IV of the State Council on Developmental Disabilities and has been auction and outreach director at The V Foundation since 2009. He was executive chef and chief executive officer at A Flash In The Pan LLC from 2008 to 2010 and vice president of operations and general manager at Trinitas Cellars from 2007 to 2008. Duley was director of hospitality and executive chef at Peju Province Winery from 2002 to 2007, corporate executive chef and director of food and beverage at Sassy Restaurant Group LLC from 2001 to 2002 and education operations manager at the Culinary Institute of America from 1996 to 2001. Neither position requires Senate confirmation. There is no compensation for the Area Board IV of the State Council on Developmental Disabilities position and the compensation is $100 per diem for the State Council Representative position. Duley is a Democrat.

Jaynee Meyer, 51, of Buena Park, has been appointed to the California Occupational Therapy Board. Meyer has served in various positions at the University of Southern California since 1996, including instructor of clinical occupational therapy, assistant coordinator of fieldwork education, assistant professor of clinical occupational therapy and academic fieldwork coordinator. She served as an occupational therapist at Gentiva Health Services Rehab Without Walls from 2002 to 2004 and clinical education consultant for occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech-language pathology student programs at Symphony Rehabilitation Services from 1995 to 1998. Meyer served in various positions at St. Mary Medical Center from 1988 to 2003, including staff occupational therapist, occupational therapy clinical coordinator and supervisor of occupational therapy. She was a staff occupational therapist at Queen of the Valley Hospital from 1985 to 1988. Meyer earned a doctorate degree in occupational therapy from the University of Southern California. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Meyer is registered decline-to-state.

Denise Miller, 47, of Glendale, has been appointed to the California Occupational Therapy Board. Miller has been director of Live Well Senior Program at Glendale Adventist Medical Center since 2011. She has served in various positions at the Glendale Adventist Medical Center, including manager of physician relations and coordinator of occupational and hand therapy from 2001 to 2011. Miller was a self-employed consultant from 1998 to 2002 and director of industrial therapy and training at Key Method Inc. from 1990 to 1998. Miller earned a Master of Business Administration degree from La Sierra University. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Miller is a Democrat.

Curtis Hill Jr., 58, of Hollister, has been appointed acting executive officer of the Board of State and Community Corrections. Hill was the sheriff and coroner of San Benito County from 1999 until 2010. He held multiple positions at the San Benito County Sherriff’s Department from 1976 to 1999, including undersheriff, sergeant, investigator and deputy sheriff. Hill served as an advocate at Warner and Pank LLC from 2011 until 2012. He was a member of the California Board of Corrections from 2000 to 2004 and the Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission from 2009 to 2010. Hill is a life member of the California State Sheriff’s Association and served as president in 2010. The compensation is $139,500. Hill is a Republican. He will serve in this position until September 1, 2013.

Linda Penner, 58, of Fresno, has been appointed executive officer of the Board of State and Community Corrections. Penner served as chief probation officer of Fresno County from 2005 to 2012. She held multiple positions at the Fresno County probation department since 1977, including probation division director, services manager, probation officer and group counselor. Penner has served as a member of the Board of State and Community Corrections since 2012 and its predecessor, the Corrections Standards Authority Board, from 2007 until 2012. She has chaired the Fresno County Community Corrections Partnership since 2011 and has been a member of the State Advisory Group on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention since 2007. Penner was president of the California Probation Officers Association of California in 2011. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $139,500. Penner is a Democrat. Her term will begin September 1, 2013.
