SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments.
Eli Gelardin, 34, of Benicia, has been appointed to the California State Independent Living Council, where he has served since 2010. Gelardin has been executive director at the Marin Center for Independent Living since 2008. Previously, he was deputy director of Independent Living Resources in 2007 and was program director for the Marin Center for Independent Living from 2003 to 2007. Gelardin is development chair of the California Foundation for Independent Living Centers and president of the Rotary Club of Mission San Rafael. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Gelardin is a Democrat.
Jacqueline Jackson, 57, of San Diego, has been appointed to the California State Independent Living Council. Jackson has been an independent nonprofit management consultant since 1994. Previously, she was development director and consultant for the San Diego Center for the Blind from 2002 to 2004, director for charter school development at Norman and Norman Inc. from 1996 to 2005 and an education consultant for the Schools Future Research Foundation from 1994 to 1996. Jackson was director of education, health and family support services for the Urban League San Diego from 1988 to 1994. She is a member of the San Diego Braille Club and the California Council of the Blind. Jackson earned a Master of Nonprofit Leadership and Management degree from the University of San Diego. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Jackson is a Democrat.
Benny Jauregui, 41, of Riverside, has been appointed to the California State Independent Living Council, where he has served since 2010. Jauregui has served in various positions at the Inland Empire Health Plan since 2005, including disability program manager. Previously, he served in various positions at Rolling Start Inc. from 2001 to 2005, including program manager. Jauregui was a sign language interpreter for San Bernardino Valley College from 1994 to 2004. Ben is a member of the Inland Empire Disabilities Collaborative and the Riverside County Office on Aging Stakeholder Advisory Group. Ben earned a Master of Public Administration degree from California State University, San Bernardino. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Jauregui is a Democrat.
Dorothy Jones, 56, of Orinda, has been appointed to the State Independent Living Council. Jones has been a private consultant on disability matters since 1999 and a registered nurse in California since 1995. Jones is a registered nurse who most recently worked at the Alta Bates Summit Medical Center from 2002 to 2011, and at Children’s Hospital of Oakland from 1996 to 2001. Jones was a parent provincial representative for the Easter Seals Society in Canada from 1990 to 1995. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Jones is a Democrat.
Elsa Quezada, 60, of Salinas, has been appointed to the California State Independent Living Council, where she has served since 2008. Quezada has served in various positions at the Central Coast Center for Independent Living since 1988, including executive director. Previously, she served in various positions at Community Rehabilitation Services Inc. from 1983 to 1988, including executive director. She was appointed to the California State Rehabilitation Council in 2012 as the California State Independent Living Council representative. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Quezada is a Democrat.
Linda Schaedle, 59, of Paso Robles, has been appointed to the California State Independent Living Council. Schaedle has been a human resources analyst at California State University, Monterey Bay since 2012. Previously, she was an employment disability consultant at California State University, San Diego from 2011 to 2012 and a disability program navigator for Shoreline Workforce Development Services and Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network from 2006 to 2010. Schaedle served on various disability mediation, dispute resolution and professional panels from 1996 to 2006. She served in various positions at the Bank of America Human Resources Center, Pasadena from 1994 to 2002, including Americans with Disabilities Act case manager. Schaedle was a freelance graphic designer from 1987 to 1993. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Schaedle is a Democrat.
Jimmie Soto, 41, of Bakersfield, has been appointed to the California State Independent Living Council. Soto has been executive director of the Independent Living Center of Kern County since 2011. Previously, he served in various positions at Resources for Independence Central Valley from 2000 to 2010, including director of program services. Soto earned a Master of Education Administration and Supervision degree from California State University, Fresno and is a board member of the California Foundation for Independent Living Centers. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Soto is a Democrat.
