Governor Brown Signs Compact with Wiyot Tribe

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today signed a tribal-state compact between the State of California and the Wiyot Indians.

The Tribe has agreed to forgo opening a gambling casino on its lands, which are adjacent to the Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge. In exchange, the Tribe will receive up to 3.5 percent of the gaming revenue from the North Fork Tribe’s casino, which is slated to open in Madera County.
