Governor Brown Announces Appointments

Rocky Burks, 60, of Rohnert Park, has been appointed to the California Commission on Disability Access, where he has served since 2009. Burks has been a disability access consultant at Rocky A. Burks Consulting since 2008 and a disability access consultant for the California Democratic Party since 1998. He was a physical access manager for the City of Sacramento from 2006 to 2012, Americans with Disabilities Act coordinator for the County of Marin from 2003 to 2006 and chief executive officer at Independent Living Services of Northern California Inc. from 1988 to 2003. Burks served as a social worker at the Butte County Welfare Department, Adult Protective Services from 1985 to 1987 and chief executive officer at Northern California Independent Living Program from 1982 to 1985. He was executive director at the Butte County Easter Seal Society from 1981 to 1982. Burks worked at California State University, Chico as coordinator of outreach and recruitment services for the Office of Veterans Affairs from 1978 to 1981 and coordinator of welfare information and assistance for Community Action Volunteers in Education from 1975 to 1977. He was an instrument flight instructor for the United States Air Force from 1971 to 1975. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Burks is a Democrat.

Betty Wilson, 77, of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the California Commission on Disability Access. Wilson has been owner and consultant at Betty R. Wilson and Associates since 2012. She served in multiple positions at the Los Angeles Department on Disability from 1989 to 2012, including director of community services, assistant director and administrative coordinator. Wilson was executive director of the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office on Disability from 1981 to 1989 and senior research associate at the Socio-behavioral Group, Neuropsychiatric Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles from 1979 to 1981. Wilson earned a Master of Arts degree in psychology from California State University, Los Angeles. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Wilson is a Democrat.

Lavanza “Kercheryl” Butler, 61, of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the California Board of Pharmacy. Butler has been a pharmacist, vice president and union representative at United Food and Commercial Workers International Union Local 770 since 2002. She was a head pharmacist at Rite Aid Pharmacy from 1980 to 2002. Butler is a member of the California Pharmacists Association and United Food and Commercial Workers Professional Division. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Butler is a Democrat.
