Governor Brown Announces Appointments

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments.

Bobbie Jean Anderson, 73, of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. Anderson served as a field representative for Assemblymember Mike Davis from 2006 to 2009, supervising legal office assistant at the Los Angeles County Office of the Public Defender from 1978 to 2003 and a typist clerk for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services from 1957 to 1968. Anderson served on the executive board of the Legacy Service Employees International Union Local 660/721 from 1995 to 2003. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Anderson is a Democrat.

Jay Hansen, 49, of Sacramento, has been appointed to the California Health Facilities Financing Authority. Hansen has been chief strategy officer of the California Medical Association since 2010. He was legislative and political director for the State Building and Construction Trades Council of California from 1999 to 2010 and was special assistant to Assembly Speakers Willie Brown, Cruz Bustamante, Antonio Villaraigosa, Bob Hertzberg and Democratic Leader Richard Katz from 1992 to 1999. Hansen serves as a member on the City of Sacramento Parks and Recreation Commission, the Occidental College Board of Governors and on the Advisory Council for the USC Sacramento Center. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Hansen is a Democrat.

Todd Hawkins, 28, of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the California African American Museum Board of Directors. Hawkins has been president and chief executive officer of The Todd Group since 2007 and a manager of special events at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital since 2012. He was an executive producer at the Charles R. Drew University Jazz Festival from 2008 to 2009 and an executive producer of the Jazz Reggae Festival at UCLA from 2004 to 2007. Hawkins was the cultural affairs director at the University of California, Los Angeles from 2005 to 2006 and the director of events and marketing at Young Artists International Inc. from 2004 to 2007. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Hawkins is a Democrat.

Cecil “Chip” Murray, 82, of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the California African American Museum Board of Directors. Murray has been the Tanzy Chair of Christian Ethics at the University of Southern California School of Religion since 2005. He was senior minister and pastor with First African Methodist Episcopal Church from 1977 to 2004, pastor at First African Methodist Episcopal (FAME) Church in Seattle from 1971 to 1977 and pastor at Trinity AME from 1966 to 1971. Murray received a doctorate in religion from Claremont School of Theology. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Murray is a Democrat.
