Governor and First Lady Honor Cpl. Richard A. Rivera Jr.

SACRAMENTO – On behalf of all Californians, Governor Brown and First Lady Anne Gust Brown honor Cpl. Richard A. Rivera Jr., who bravely gave his life in service to our state and nation. The Governor and First Lady extend their deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.

In memorial, Governor Brown ordered that flags be flown at half-staff over the State Capitol today. Cpl. Rivera’s family will receive a letter of condolence from the Governor.

Cpl. Richard A. Rivera Jr., 20, of Ventura, CA, died August 10, while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. Rivera was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force. His parent command was 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force in Kaneohe Bay, HI. He was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
