Governor and First Lady Honor Pfc. Jesus J. Lopez

SACRAMENTO – On behalf of all Californians, Governor Brown and First Lady Anne Gust Brown honor Pfc. Jesus J. Lopez, who bravely gave his life in service to our state and nation. The Governor and First Lady extend their deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.

In memorial, Governor Brown ordered that flags be flown at half-staff over the State Capitol today. Pfc. Lopez’s family will receive a letter of condolence from the Governor.

Pfc. Jesus J. Lopez, 22, of San Bernardino, CA, died August 1, in Paktika province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when he encountered an enemy improvised explosive device. Lopez was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, KS. He was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
