SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments.
Lupe Garcia, 43, of Alameda, has been appointed to the California State University Board of Trustees. Garcia has served in multiple positions at Gap Inc. since 1999, including associate general counsel, senior corporate counsel and corporate counsel. She served as an associate at Lafayette and Kumagai LLP from 1995 to 1999. Garcia is a member of the Ethics and Compliance Officer Association and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area. She earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Garcia is registered decline-to-state.
Hugo Morales, 63, of Fresno, has been appointed to the California State University Board of Trustees. Morales has been executive director at Radio Bilingüe Inc. since 1980. He served as an adjunct lecturer of the La Raza Studies Program at California State University, Fresno from 1976 to 1979. Morales received the Edward R. Murrow Award from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in 1999 and the MacArthur Foundation Fellowship in 1994. He earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Harvard Law School. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Morales is a Democrat.
Bruce Holaday, 59, of Oakland, has been appointed to the State Board of Education. Holaday has been director of educational advancement at Wildlife Associates since 2010. He was director of Newpoint Tampa High School from 2009 to 2010 and director of the Oakland Military Institute from 2004 to 2009. Holaday served in multiple positions at the Culver Academies from 1976 to 2004, including development director, director of summer programs and English teacher. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Holaday is a Democrat.
Kathy Jones Irish, 59, of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists. Jones Irish has been vice president at Arnie Berghoff and Associates since 2011 and was vice president of marketing and business development at KHAFRA Engineering Consultants Inc. from 2010 to 2011. She served as assistant general manager at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power from 2008 to 2010 and as interim general manager at the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs in 2008. Jones Irish was director of government relations at MWH Americas Inc. from 2006 to 2008 and chief of staff to Los Angeles City Councilmember Tom LaBonge from 2001 to 2005. She was the executive assistant to the general manager at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power from 1998 to 2001 and was manager of public affairs at the Water Replenishment District of Southern California from 1996 to 1998. Jones Irish was public affairs manager at Warner Bros. Studios from 1994 to 1996, manager of community relations at the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission from 1991 to 1994 and a transportation planner at the Southern California Association of Governments from 1988 to 1991. This position does not require Senate confirmation and compensation is $100 per diem. Jones Irish is a Democrat.
Robert Stockton, 58, of Riverside, has been appointed to the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists. Stockton has worked in multiple positions at Rick Engineering Company since 1981, including principal, associate principal, associate and project engineer. He was a design engineer at Sowards and Brown Engineering Company from 1978 to 1981. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Stockton is a Democrat.
Patrick Tami, 50, of Roseville, has been appointed to the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists. He has served on the board since 2007. Tami has been vice president at RBF Consulting since 1995 and was a project manager at Greiner Industries Inc. in 1995. He was a survey manager at Santina and Thompson Inc. from 1993 to 1995 and survey manager at Stedman and Associates from 1986 to 1993. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Tami is a Republican.
Geraldine Pilar Trivedi, 44, of Palos Verdes Peninsula, has been appointed to the California Board of Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists. Trivedi has served as a civil engineer for the City of Redondo Beach since 2009 and was a civil engineer for the City of Huntington Beach from 2001 to 2009. She was a senior environmental engineer at Disneyland from 1998 to 2001 and an engineer for Mobil Oil Corporation from 1993 to 1998. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Trivedi is a Democrat.
Marisela Montes, 58, of Sacramento, has been appointed to the Board of Parole Hearings. Montes has been a consultant at the California Prison Industry Authority since 2011. She served in multiple positions at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) from 2006 to 2009, including deputy director of adult institutions and chief deputy secretary of adult programs. Montes was deputy director of administration at the California Department of Transportation from 1999 to 2006. She worked at CDCR from 1984 to 1999 in multiple positions, including chief of correctional planning and research, deputy director of parole and community services, assistant deputy director of parole and community services, associate warden at the California State Prison, Solano, assistant deputy director of administration, assistant director of affirmative action and staff services manager in peace officer testing and standards. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $111,845. Montes is registered decline-to-state.
Brian Roberts, 59, of Santee, has been appointed to the Board of Parole Hearings. Roberts has served as deputy commissioner at the Board of Parole Hearings since 2006. He served in multiple positions at the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department from 1975 to 2006, including commander, captain, lieutenant and sergeant. Roberts is a member of the California State Sheriffs’ Association and the Peace Officers Research Association of California. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $111,845. Roberts is a Republican.
Ali Zarrinnam, 37, of Encino, has been appointed to the Board of Parole Hearings. Zarrinnam has served as deputy commissioner at the Board of Parole Hearings since 2009. He served as a panel attorney at the California Parole Advocacy Project from 2004 to 2009, as partner at the Law Offices of Zarrinnam and Chakur from 2003 to 2007 and as an attorney at Finnegan and Diba from 2002 to 2003.
