Governor Brown Announces Appointments

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments.

Andrew Bowden, 58, of Newport Beach, has been appointed to the Landscape Architects Technical Committee. Bowden has worked at Land Concern LTD since 1976, serving as the principal architect since 2000. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Bowden is a Republican.

Nicki Johnson, 34, of Roseville, has been appointed to the Landscape Architects Technical Committee. She has been owner and landscape architect at Laurus Design Studio since 2011. Johnson was a landscape architect for Omni-Means Engineers Planners from 2006 to 2011 and was a landscape designer at Broussard Associates in 2006. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Johnson is a Democrat.

Katherine Spitz, 60, of Los Angeles, has been appointed to the Landscape Architects Technical Committee. She has served as principal at Katherine Spitz Associates since 1993. Spitz was principal at Burton and Spitz Landscape Architecture from 1986 to 1993 and a freelance architectural designer for Appleton and Associates, Levitt Turner and Studio Works from 1981 to 1983. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Spitz is a Democrat.

Steve Drewniany, 50, of Santa Clara County, has been appointed to the Commission on Emergency Medical Services. Drewniany has been deputy chief of special operations for the City of Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety since 2011, where he has served in various positions since 1989. From 2009 to 2011, he was a flight paramedic and an instructor at the International School of Tactical Medicine in Palm Springs. Drewniany was a paramedic for American Medical Response West from 1985 to 1989, and a paramedic for North Country Emergency Medical Services and the Yacolt Washington Fire Department in 1985. He is a member of the California Peace Officers Association and the California Police Chiefs Association and was previously a member of the California Fire Chiefs Association and the California Peace Officer Standards and Training Tactical Medicine Guidelines Committee. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Drewniany is a Republican.

Peter Kurylowicz Jr, 54, of Hemet, has been appointed to the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training. Kurylowicz has been deputy sheriff for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department since 1988. He has served as the executive secretary for the Riverside Sheriff’s Association since 2009. This position requires Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Kurylowicz is a Republican.
