SACRAMENTO – On behalf of all Californians, Governor Brown and First Lady Anne Gust Brown honor Chief Warrant Officer Nicholas S. Johnson, who bravely gave his life in service to our state and nation. The Governor and First Lady extend their deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.
In memorial, Governor Brown ordered that flags be flown at half-staff over the State Capitol today. Chief Warrant Officer Johnson’s family will receive a letter of condolence from the Governor.

Chief Warrant Officer Nicholas S. Johnson, 27, of San Diego, CA, died April 19, in Helmand province, Afghanistan, when his Black Hawk (UH-60) crashed. Johnson was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, Wheeler Army Airfield, HI. Johnson was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
