Governor and First Lady Honor Spc. Edward J. Acosta

SACRAMENTO – On behalf of all Californians, Governor Brown and First Lady Anne Gust Brown honor Spc. Edward J. Acosta, who bravely gave his life in service to our state and nation. The Governor and First Lady extend their deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.

In memorial, Governor Brown ordered that flags be flown at half-staff over the State Capitol today. Spc. Acosta’s family will receive a letter of condolence from the Governor.

Spc. Edward J. Acosta, 21, of Hesperia, CA, died March 5, in La Jolla, CA, of injuries sustained December 3, 2011, when his vehicle was struck by an improvised-explosive device in Wardak province, Afghanistan. Acosta was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, TX. Acosta was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
