Governor and First Lady Honor Spc. Kevin R. Shumaker

SACRAMENTO – On behalf of all Californians, Governor Brown and First Lady Anne Gust Brown honor Spc. Kevin R. Shumaker, who bravely gave his life in service to our state and nation. The Governor and First Lady extend their deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.

In memorial, Governor Brown ordered that flags be flown at half-staff over the State Capitol today. Spc. Shumaker’s family will receive a letter of condolence from the Governor.

Spc. Kevin R. Shumaker, 24, of Livermore, CA, died Aug. 31 in a stateside hospital of a non-combat related illness. He was assigned to the Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, NY. Shumaker was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
