Governor and First Lady Honor Staff Sgt. James M. Christen

SACRAMENTO – On behalf of all Californians, Governor Brown and First Lady Anne Gust Brown honor Staff Sgt. James M. Christen who bravely gave his life in service to our state and nation. The Governor and First Lady extend their deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.

In memorial, Governor Brown ordered that flags be flown at half-staff over the State Capitol today. Staff Sgt. Christen’s family will receive a letter of condolence from the Governor.

Staff Sgt. James M. Christen, 29, of Loomis, CA, died July 19 in Kunar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, HI. Christen was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
