Governor Brown Issues Statement on Death of San Francisco Firefighter

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr. today issued the following statement regarding the death of veteran San Francisco Fire Department Firefighter Anthony Valerio:

“It was with great sadness that Anne and I learned that San Francisco firefighter Anthony Valerio had passed away. We send our deep condolences to Anthony’s family, friends and the entire San Francisco Fire Department family as they mourn his death and the passing of firefighter Vincent Perez earlier this week.”

Firefighter Valerio, 53, died Saturday morning, surrounded by his family and fellow firefighters, from injuries sustained fighting a house fire in the Diamond Heights district of San Francisco. The oldest of seven children, Valerio was a San Francisco native. His 27 year career with the City of San Francisco began in 1984 when he became a paramedic. He became a firefighter in 1997 and worked for Engine Company 26.

In honor of Valerio, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
